Barbara Elaine Ward

Copperas Cove

Barbara Elaine Ward, a beloved military wife, dedicated community member, and cherished family matriarch, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2024, in Harker Heights, Texas. She was born on June 7, 1936, in Bladenboro, North Carolina.

Barbara's life was one of service and kindness to others. As the proud wife of Sgt. Major James Ward, she supported him during their military journey that took them to various locations both in the United States and abroad. While stationed in Korea, Barbara shared her passion for teaching by instructing students in conversational English. She was also actively involved in the Ladies Auxiliary for Sons Scholarships.

Upon James's retirement from the military, they ventured into entrepreneurship together by owning and operating Seafood Central in Killeen, Texas. Their dedication to serving their community continued for five years until they sold the business. Barbara then devoted a decade of her life to volunteering at Kings Daughter and Metroplex Hospitals.

A woman of many talents and interests, Barbara excelled not only in her professional endeavors but also in her personal pursuits. Having graduated from Cosmetology School following high school in Bladenboro, NC, she embarked on a successful career. In her free time, Barbara found joy in being an active member of her church community. Renowned as the "Cookie Lady," she delighted in brightening people's days by sharing her delicious baked goods with friends and loved ones.

Barbara will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She is survived by her children James Rodney Ward (Jean Ward) and Gregory Lee Ward (Debi Ward); grandchildren Crystal Ward Evans (Bobby Evans), Jimmy Ward (Fallon Ward), Brett Ward (Chloe Ward), and Blythe Ward; great-grandchildren Parker Evans, Paige Evans, Katie O'Connor-Ward, Macy Frye, Presley Ward, Hallie Ward, Bristol Ward; and sister Nanette Lanier.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband James E. Ward; parents Robert Bryant and Vina Bryant; as well as siblings Carolyn Shaughney and Bobby Bryant.

Services to honor and celebrate Barbara's life will be held at Sneed-Carnley Funeral Chapel in Copperas Cove (1614 S FM 116) on April 15th for visitation from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM and on April 16th for the funeral service starting at 12:00 PM followed by burial at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen (11463 TX-195) at 2:00 PM.

Barbara Elaine Ward leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and generosity that will continue to inspire all those who were fortunate enough to have known her.
