Betty Evelyn Poe

Betty Evelyn Poe, 84, of Lometa, passed away on Thursday, June 24, 2021, at Advent Central Texas in Killeen.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 8, 2021, at Sneed Funeral Chapel.  Visitation will be held an hour prior from 10-11 a.m.  Interment will follow at School Creek Cemetery. 

Betty was born to Keston O.P. Hodge and Iolah Azalea Hill Hodge and was the oldest of 6 children.  While a teenager Betty worked one summer at Dyess Air Force Base while her dad worked in construction on the base.  She graduated from Lampasas High School in May 1955 and then went on to attend Jackson Business College in Lampasas.  Upon completion of her courses, she went to work in Austin until she married her late husband, Bobby Dale Poe on February 11, 1956.  After her marriage, she worked for a couple of local attorneys in Lampasas before getting a job at Fort Hood.  She later got a job with Civil Service where she retired after 20 years of service.

Betty later opened the Lometa Music Hall in Lometa, TX.  She had a number of performers play and entertain there.  Her favorite hobbies were singing, crocheting, sewing, and she would also enjoy singing for the crowds as well.  Betty sang in the quartets at Broad Street Church of Christ in Lampasas and performed with the Sweet Adelines Quartets.

Betty was heavily involved in many community activities and loved to give back.  She was a member of Farm Bureau, Lampasas Historical Commission, served on the Lometa City Council where she was very active and always loved to help anyone.  She was known to give out her famous peanut brittle all over town.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Roger Gale Hodge; parents, Keston and Azalea Hodge and husband, Bobby Dale Poe.

Survivors include her siblings, Patrica Ann Hodge Thornal (Bill), Bradley Hodge (Mary Ann), Azalea Dell Hodge Aldinger, Alicia Nell Hodge Lane; children, Beverly Poe Maddux (Jimmy), Bobby Dale Poe, Jr. (Binhua), Barry Poe (Tammy), Brent Stephen Poe (Lori), Betsy Poe and Bryce Darren Poe; grandchildren, Bobby Dale Poe III, Benjamin H. Poe, Amy H.G. Poe, Kenny and Crystal Tabler, Otto, Benjamin, Cecilia, Aiden, Faith and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
