Blas Mendez Gonzales Sr., age 83, passed away peacefully on May 24, 2026, at his home in Jarrell, Texas. He was born on November 29, 1942, in Burnet, Texas, to Ventura Mendez and Felipa Salazar.
A rosary will be recited at Sneed-Carnley Funeral Chapel in Lampasas on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at 6 pm with visitation to follow until 8 pm.
Blas grew up in Lampasas, Texas, where he built a life centered around family, faith, and hard work. He worked as a sanitation worker and later spent many years doing various jobs including fence building, sheep shearing, and landscaping. He was known as a hardworking man who took pride in providing for his family and helping others whenever he could.
In 1964, Blas married the love of his life, Mary Alice Gonzales, in Lampasas, Texas. Together, they shared 56 wonderful years of marriage filled with love, devotion, and cherished family memories. Blas was a devoted member of the Catholic Church and enjoyed playing washers and dominoes, as well as attending dances with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Alice Gonzales; his son, Blas Gonzales, Jr.; his grandson, Adam Resa Jr.; his parents, Ventura Mendez and Felipa Salazar; his brothers, Jessie Gonzales, Oscar Gonzales, and Carmen Gonzales, and his sisters, Angel Marez, Janie Gonzales, Rosie Sanchez, Mary Pena, and Inez Ochoa.
Blas is survived by his daughters, Priscilla (Marcos) Trujillo of Jarrell, Texas, and Diane (Johnny) Ybarra of Lampasas, Texas; his brothers, Ray Salazar, Bill Salazar, John Salazar, Jessie Salazar and Phillip Salazar; and his sisters, Alice Salazar, Mary Balkama, Thomasa Cook, and Julie Salazar. He also leaves behind 11 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren who will forever cherish his love and memory.
Blas will be remembered for his kindness, strong work ethic, love for his family, and the joy he brought to those around him. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
