Charles Onslow Hood, 84, of Lometa passed away on Saturday, September 26, 2020, in Lampasas peacefully with his family at his side. Graveside Memorial Service will be held at the Long Cove Cemetery Tabernacle in Lometa, Texas at 2 p.m. Monday, September 28, 2020. Charles was born February 11, 1936, in Bell County, Texas to John Onslow and Nora Frances (Lanmon) Hood. He grew up working alongside his parents on the Hood Hereford Haven. The Hood name was well known for the quality of their registered and commercial Hereford cattle. Charles enjoyed showing his cattle, and won many prestigious awards at major stock shows. Charles delightfully encouraged and assisted any farmers or ranchers new to the area. He farmed and ranched for livestock all of his life. He continued to do so right up until the time he was called to his Hood Hereford Heaven. Charles proudly served his country in the US Army and was stationed overseas. He was always known for his willingness to work hard and help others. He was always on call for any friend or family member in need and never met a stranger. Charles married the love of his life Mary Virginia Word on July 17, 1961, and they were happily married for 59 years. Charles was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Mary; daughters, Rachel Elam and husband Clem, Rita Wittenburg and husband Alex, Ronda Bridges and husband Lewis; 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his family and numerous loving friends.
