Claude "Bubba" Frank Cannon III

Claude Frank Cannon III, affectionately known as "Bubba," was a remarkable individual whose legacy will be cherished by all who knew him. Born on August 3, 1945, in Houston, Texas, Bubba embodied the spirit of a true cowboy, yet his contributions extended past the realm of ranch life.  After passing on March 8, 2026, in Lometa Texas, his family and friends remember him as a dedicated educator, with a thirst for all things western and a devout Christian. Bubba's career was a colorful tapestry, woven with experiences that showcased his diverse talents. His family would casually describe him as a cowboy, the truth is that he was so much more.  He was a high school science teacher, Ag teacher and coach for basketball and football teams. He also made his mark as a horse trainer, farrier, rodeo announcer, and college rodeo coach. As an ordained minister and deacon of the church, he devoted his life to serving both God and his community.

A proud graduate of Texas A & M University and Sul Ross State University, Bubba dedicated his life to sharing knowledge and nurturing love for horses. He taught all of his daughters how to ride, instilling in them a deep appreciation for horsemanship from a young age. He played an instrumental role in the lives of many young riders including his oldest grandson, J. Dallon, and his nephew, Wes. Bubba's passion for horses was ever-present, and he never ceased pursuing the art of raising and training them. A short while ago, he took up leather work, teaching himself how to rework western saddles and tack. Bubba recently celebrated a significant accomplishment with the publication of his first book, a Christian devotional "Trail Markers: Along the Way to Life Everlasting Vol. 1." This project brought him immense joy, allowing him to share his love for Christ and his passion for writing with others. 

Bubba is survived by his four beloved daughters, Stacy Cannon, Laura Staples and her husband Jess, Mica Hicks and her husband Jason, and Sunni Cannon and her husband Eugene Drepaniotis. Six wonderful grandchildren Ross Staples, Dexter Staples, J. Dallon Cannon (Rachel) Hicks, Grady (Abby) Hicks, Ebe Drepaniotis and Eli Drepaniotis. He is also survived by his loving sisters, Claudia (John) Baker and Shirley Rogers, as well as several nieces and nephews, including Lisa Day (Robert Byers), Kurt Day, John David (Colette) Baker, Caryn Baker, Frank (Angela) Baker, Chance Webb and Wes Webb.

He was preceded in death by his father, Claude Frank Cannon Jr., his dearly treasured mother, Bettie Cannon, and sister, Jacqueline Day.

As we remember Bubba Cannon, let us celebrate a life marked by steadfast faith in Jesus Christ and a passion for sharing his love of horses.  His spirit will live on in the memories and hearts of all who had the privilege to know him.

A visitation will be held at Community Church in Lampasas, Texas on March 13, 2026, 10:00 am, followed by a funeral service at 11:00am.  A graveside service will take place at Little Mississippi Cemetery Franklin, Texas, at 2:30 pm.
