Edward Roland Cedillo of Copperas Cove, Texas, passed away on May 9, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, dedication, and laughter that will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him. Born on August 28, 1950, in San Antonio, Texas, Edward was the beloved son of Felicitas Cedillo and Paul Cedillo. His life was marked by service—to his country, community, and most of all his family.
Edward devoted 22 honorable years to the United States Army, serving in Dental Command (Dentac) and retiring with the esteemed rank of E7. His commitment to care extended beyond his military career, as he spent another 27 years working as a civil service contractor at Fort Hood, Texas in the role as a Dental Expanded Function. This profession was more than a job to Edward; it was a calling that reflected his dedication to the well being of others.
At the heart of Edward's life was his family. Better known as Papa, he is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 55 years, Estela Villalpando Cedillo, whose partnership sustained him throughout the decades. Together, they nurtured a blossoming family with warmth and affection. He is survived by his daughters— Nina Waybright (Aaron Waybright), Marie Morgan (Sergio Guadarrama), and Jamie Cedillo who carry forward his spirit and grandchildren— Dominick Waybright, Daniel Waybright, Michael Waybright, and Isabel Morgan, who represent the deep roots that Papa planted.
Papa loved fully and deeply. Whether he was traveling abroad, visiting his family in Houston and San Antonio, or enjoying the simple pleasures at home, he found joy in the small moments. His gardens were a sanctuary where he labored tirelessly —feeding hummingbirds and squirrels and tending to his plants with care. Around the house, he was always inventing or restoring something new, his hands and heart never idle. Papa delighted in cooking sumptuous meals, sharing detailed stories of his savory creations with friends and family alike. His laughter was infectious; he had the gift of storytelling that could captivate anyone fortunate enough to listen. Those who knew Papa remember his humor and kindness, traits that brought light and comfort.
While hand-feeding a hummingbird recently, he remarked that these tiny creatures were spirits visiting from beyond. This beautiful sentiment now offers solace to his family; they look forward with hope to spot the next hummingbird, certain it carries the love of their father watching over them from heaven. Though his departure leaves a void, his spirit endures in the love he sowed, the laughter he shared, and the stories that will be told for generations.
