Emma Elizabeth "Putzie" Schoenewolf Martin

Emma Elizabeth "Putzie" Schoenewolf Martin, 83, passed away on January 14, 2026, at her home in Lometa, Texas. She was born on May 5, 1942, in Gillespie County, Texas to Victor Hugo and Mary DeRose (Buttrill) Schoenewolf.

A Funeral Mass will be held at Church of the Good Shepherd, 411 W. Main St, Lometa, Texas 76853 on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Lometa City Cemetery.

Putzie grew up in Lometa, Texas, and graduated from Lometa High School. She married George Martin in March of 1962. After they were married, they were transferred to McAllen and New Braunfels, Texas, following George's career as a game warden. When he changed careers and began working with LCRA, they settled in Bastrop, Texas.

She became the Bastrop City Librarian and had a key role in getting grants to build a new library for the community. Putzie was a member of Ascension Catholic Church in Bastrop, Texas. She was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time at her beloved Ladies of Charity in Bastrop.

She and George both had a knack for "adopting" all of Tommy and DeRose's friends. Their door was always open with a helping hand, love, and laughter.

Putzie was preceded in death by her husband, George, her son, Tommy, her parents, Victor Hugo and Mary DeRose, and her brother, Hugh.

She is survived by her daughter, DeRose (Scott) of Flatonia, Texas; her grandchildren, Justin Janecka (Krystal), Kaitlyn Smith (Emily), Heather Martin, and Brandon Martin; her great-grandchildren, Kaisley and Jehnsen Janecka, Chester and Cadence Jackson, and many cousins and friends who were family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Bastrop Ladies Charity or your local 4-H or FFA (Future Farmers of America organizations).
