Evelyn Marie Reeves Tratt

On Thursday 6 June 2024, Evelyn Marie Reeves Tratt, a beloved wife and mother entered her heavenly home at the age of eighty-two. Born in Roswell, NM, to Earl Vernon and Dixie Marie Harman Reeves, Evelyn was raised in New Mexico and Texas with her sister and three brothers. Evelyn graduated high school in Hico, Texas and soon after joined the Women's Army Corps. While serving at Ft. Dix, New Jersey she met Samuel Tratt, a fellow Army soldier to whom she would fall in love with and marry. After marriage, Evelyn transitioned from military service to start a family with Samuel.

Evelyn and Samuel had two sons, Michael and Steven. Raising a family of Army brats and supporting Samuel’s twenty-seven year Army career during four unaccompanied overseas deployments served as the foundation for Evelyn’s independent and self-reliant nature. After her sons reached adulthood, Samuel retired from the Army and transitioned to civilian life, Evelyn turned to volunteering her time at the Fort Hood thrift shop. Later Evelyn transitioned from a volunteer to assistant manager and eventually manager of the Fort Hood thrift shop. After leaving the thrift shop behind, Evelyn joined Samuel in retirement. Evelyn spent her retirement years with her hobbies of reading and crafting, attending luncheons with the retired Sergeant major wives association, and being a grandmother/great-grandmother.

Evelyn was known by those she loved for her strength, loyalty and independence. Evelyn is survived by her husband of fifty-eight years Samuel, sons, Michael and Steven; granddaughter, Starlette, great-grandchildren; Mabel, Mateo, Greysen and Ayeden, sister Lenora Reeves Browning, brothers Richard (Laurice), David (Ann) and Kenneth.

Memorial services are scheduled for noon, Friday, June 28, 2024 at Sneed Carnley Funeral Chapel of Copperas Cove. Burial will follow at 2:00 at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen with Military Honors. 

Following the graveside service, the family will gather at VFW Post 8577, 1506 Veterans Ave, Copperas Cove, TX 76522 for a time of fellowship and refreshments.
