It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Gary R. Albrecht Sr., who left us on February 27, 2026, in Copperas Cove, Texas, after a courageous battle with stage 4 prostate cancer. Born on August 19, 1938, in St. Paul, Minnesota, Gary lived a life rich in love, service, and dedication not only to his craft as a glass glazier for over 40 years but also to his cherished family.
Gary was a proud military veteran of the United States Army, exemplifying courage and commitment throughout his life. He was known for his kind heart and selfless nature, always willing to lend a hand or offer support to anyone in need. He treated his family and friends with unwavering kindness, often saying he would give the shirt off his back to help someone.
While he dedicated many years to his career, his true passion lay in his family. Gary adored spending time with his grandchildren, creating lasting memories that they will treasure forever. He was especially proud to embrace his role as a great great grandfather, celebrating this milestone with joy as he welcomed Genesis Duke into the family through his great grandson Javen Duke. This title brought him immense pride and happiness, reflecting the deep connection he had with his lineage.
His personality shone brightly in everything he did. Whether it was enjoying a round of golf with his best friend Jeff George or delving into thought-provoking discussions during bible study with his good friends Dewitt Wyatt, and Phil, and Virginia Carnes. Gary embraced life with fervor. These hobbies brought him joy and allowed him to share great moments with those he loved.
Gary leaves behind a legacy of love and memories that will continue to inspire his family and friends. He is survived by his beloved children, Gary Albrecht Jr. and Wendy Laurent, along with his son-in-law Warren Laurent. The love he held for his grandchildren shone through in the relationships he nurtured with Malissa Rico, Francisco Rico Sr., Anthony Norfolk, Danevia Norfolk, Hannah Nickle, Pete Hernandez, Steve Duke, Christopher Albrecht, and Shelby Albrecht. Gary was a proud grandfather to his great grandchildren: Liliana Rico, Lucilia Rico, Francisco Rico Jr., Ricardo Rico, Gwendolyn Norfolk, Isabella Norfolk, Mckenzie Smith, A.J. Smith, Javen Duke, and Layne Duke. His heart swelled with love for little Genesis Duke, his great great granddaughter.
Gary is now reunited with his beloved wife of over 50 years, Helen Albrecht, and his cherished children, Julie Skow, Craig Albrecht, and Mark Albrecht, who predeceased him. Their memories will be etched into the fabric of his family's life, guiding and watching over them as they navigate through their days without his gentle presence.
Funeral services to celebrate Gary's remarkable life will be held at the Copperas Cove Location on March 7, 2026, at 11:00 AM, with a graveside service to follow in Killeen on March 17, 2026, at 1:00 PM. In these moments, we invite all who knew him to come together to share stories and honor the incredible man he was.
Though Gary R. Albrecht Sr. may have departed from this earthly realm, his spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him. His legacy of compassion, kindness, and unwavering love shall continue to live on through his family and friends.
