Gary "Mo" Vance Mosier

October 23, 1947 — January 8, 2026

Kempner

Gary Vance Mosier, age 78, of Kempner, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on January 8, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on October 23, 1947, in Santa Anna, Texas, to Roy Vance Mosier (1902-1984) and Lucile Jurhee Reed Mosier (1919-1978), Gary's dedication to family was evident from a young age.  He and his sisters, Betty and Barbara, spent their adolescence on Carolyn Drive in Odessa, Texas.  It was while living there, at the ripe old age of 15, that he met his soulmate, Toni Carol Boyd Mosier.  Their nearly 60 years of marriage became a true model of commitment, partnership, and enduring love.

Gary - affectionately known as "Mo" or even "Mo Bandy" to those who loved him - developed a deep love for football during his time at Odessa High School, where he was awarded the prestigious Fighting Heart Award, recognizing grit, perseverance, effort, and determination.  These qualities stayed with him throughout his collegiate football career with the East Central Oklahoma Tigers, as well as his 30-plus-year career as a Texas high school coach and teacher.  Mo taught history and automotive shop, often taking on hands-on projects within the communities he served.  A lifelong tinkerer, he eventually built his own 1976 Bronco three separate times - each rebuild a reflection of his patience, skill, and determination.

Mo was the kind of teacher and coach who showed compassion and care in every interaction.  Having coached in several towns across Texas, he left behind countless former students who remembered him fondly - often stopping family members years later to reminisce, grateful for the chance to share stories of "Coach Mo."  One particularly harrowing memory included Mo driving a bus full of Wink Wildcats home from an away game.  While descending a steep incline, the bus brakes failed, and through calm focus and steady resolve, he narrowly guided every student safely home.  That was Mo - calm, steady, and dependable.

Above all else, Gary was the heart of his family.  He loved his wife, Toni, solidly and faithfully for more than half a century.  His greatest joy - his three children - learned the values of honesty, perseverance, and kindness simply by watching him live them out.  His quiet strength, unwavering support, and steady love touched everyone fortunate enough to know him.  He maintained deep, meaningful friendships through each chapter of life, and cherished those relationships; friends that became family.

Gary and Toni spent their golden years balancing worldwide travel with quality time spent at their home base in the Texas Hill Country, surrounded by children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, beloved dogs, and an endless supply of small motors to tinker with.

Gary is survived by his wife of 59 years, Toni; his children, son Gary Lynn and spouse Heather Mosier, son Roy Joe and spouse Will Sanson-Mosier, and daughter, Wendy and spouse Brian Welch; his grandchildren, Victoria, Colton, Weston, and Macy; great-grandson, Levi; and a large and loving network of friends and family who are forever better for their time spent with Mo Bandy.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Roy Wayne Mosier (passed at birth, 1945), and sisters, Barbara Nadine Mosier Green (1941-2009) and Betty Lucile Mosier Cravens (1943-1998), as well as his beloved mother and father.

A celebration of Gary's life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 11, 2026, at Sneed-Carnley Funeral Chapel in Lampasas.

In lieu of flowers, the family warmly suggests memorial donations to the Alzheimer's Association in Gary's name.

Mo will be deeply missed, but the love he gave so freely, the lessons he taught by example, and the warmth he brought to every room will live on in every heart he touched. Forever our hero, our coach, our Dad.
