Gaynell Ross Dalton, age 101, passed away on April 30, 2023, at Lily Springs Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Lampasas, Texas. Services will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at Adamsville Baptist Church, 17084 North US 281, Lampasas, Texas. Visitation will be held at Sneed-Carnley Funeral Chapel, 201 E. 3rd St., Lampasas, Texas from 5 to 7 pm on Friday, May 5, 2023. Interment will follow at Townsen Cemetery in Adamsville.
Gaynell was born on March 30, 1922, in Yoakum, Texas to Robert Ross and Aileen Gibson Ross. Gaynell was raised in South Texas and lived in Kenedy, Texas until she moved to Lampasas in the spring of 1944. That same year she married Vernon Dalton on November 4, 1944, in Lampasas, Texas, at the Keystone Star Hotel, where they also spent their honeymoon. Gaynell and Vernon were happily married for 63 years until Vernon's death in 2007. Gaynell loved to fish and spent time at Bend, TX on the Colorado River catching catfish with Vernon and her kids and grandkids. She also loved to cook, do crossword puzzles, read romance novels, and watch her "stories" on daytime TV. From 1944 until the early 1970's Gaynell worked as a waitress at most of the cafes in town, she also worked at the Producer's Produce Company for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Aileen Ross; her husband, Vernon; her son, Chester Lee "Beaver" Dalton; six brothers, Denver Ross, William Ross, Norman Ross, John Ross, Elliott Ross, and Robert Ross, Jr.; sisters, Marjorie Walker, Ila Barbee, Alma Wren and by her very best friend of over 50 years, Maxine Connolly.
Gaynell is survived by her son Tommy Mack Brown and his wife, Henrietta of Lampasas, Texas; daughter-in-law, Raynell Dalton of Cedar Park, Texas; former daughter-in-law, Susie (Garner) Wakeland of Lampasas, Texas; daughter-in-love, Mary Jo Speaks of San Antonio, Texas; sisters-in-law, Irene Ross of Beeville, Texas and Peggy Ross of Alice, Texas; grandchildren, Sherill Franke and husband Monte of Lisbon, Portugal; Tammy Boriack and husband Tom of Jonestown, Texas; Shane Brown and wife Amy, Karen Timmons and husband Bruce, Elizabeth Davis and husband Greg Lanford all of Lampasas, Texas; great-grandchildren, Kyler Boline of Austin, Texas; McKaul Boline and wife Katie of Austin, Texas, Ashley Boriack of Houston, Texas, Tanner Boriack and wife Kate of Cypress, Texas, Macy Boriack of Austin, Texas, and Michael January, Benjamin Brown, Aidan Wiley, and Ryan Wiley all of Lampasas, Texas, Roy Sewell of Fort Worth, Texas; great-great-grandchildren, Paisley and Adelyn Boline of Austin, Texas, Lilly and Delilah Boline of Cedar Park, Texas; Lily Sewell of Fort Worth, Texas; and Kooper Hankins of Lampasas, Texas; as well as many, many nieces and nephews. Gaynell had many extra "grandchildren" that also knew her as Gran. Especially James Rogers of Goldthwaite, and Kyle Fortenberry of Justin. Gaynell was blessed to have three wonderful caretakers the last several years of her life, Patty Underwood and Frances Marez, both of Lampasas and Glenda "Dale" Funk of Arlington, Texas.
