Helen Jean Tackett, born Helen Jean Gregory on October 11, 1929, in Dublin, Texas, peacefully passed away in her sleep on May 14, 2026, in Temple, Texas, after living a long and full life. She was a woman whose unwavering resilience and strength left a profound mark on all who knew her, a dependable soul who stood as a pillar of support and kindness throughout her life.
Helen’s journey began in her hometown of Dublin, where she graduated from Dublin High School and proudly played on the basketball team, showcasing early signs of her determined spirit and team-oriented nature. Her life's tapestry was richly woven with her enduring role as a supportive wife to her beloved husband, Johnnie Jr, during his years of military service. Together, they navigated the complexities of military life across diverse postings including South Carolina, Louisiana, Taiwan, Germany, and Thailand. Helen took immense pride in being a military wife, a role that exemplified her strength, patience, and deep commitment.
Beyond her family’s military chapters, Helen nurtured a successful career as the Area District Manager of Circle K, where her dependability and leadership inspired many. Helen was a mother to seven children, a role she cherished above all else. Her heart overflowed with love for her family—those near and far. She found joy spending time with her loved ones, tending her garden, watching the Texas Rangers play baseball, and watching old western movies. Helen was a devoted Christian and often spoke fondly of the childhood memory of being baptized alongside her mother. In more recent years, she was a member of Coryell Community Church in Gatesville. To Helen, family was everything, and she demonstrated this daily in her consistent warmth and affection.
Helen’s legacy lives on in her surviving children: Linda Young and her husband Vaughn Young, Mary White, Debra Rogers, Michael Tackett and his wife Brooke Tackett, and Kenneth Tackett and his wife Sandy Tackett. Her family circle further extends to grandchildren Gerald Costigan, Mary Ann Vasquez, Gary White Jr., Rene Torres, Robert Rogers, Christoper Tackett, Nicole Tackett, Nathan Campeggio, Jamie Campeggio, Cassidy Meronek, Averie Tackett, Ian Creed Tackett, and Ezra Tackett, as well as many great and great-great-grandchildren who continue to cherish her memory and spirit.
