Jack Wayne Gilliland

Jack Wayne Gilliland, 76, of Lampasas, passed away on August 21, 2026.  He was born in Roswell, New Mexico, on October 31, 1949, to B.F. Gilliland and Vera Margaret (Blackwell) Gilliland.

Services will be held at First Baptist Church in Lampasas on Thursday, August 27, at 11 am with visitation an hour prior.  Graveside services will be on Friday, August 28, at 2 pm at New Spanish Fort Cemetery in Spanish Fort, TX.

Jack led a life full of serving others.  He attended Tarleton State University out of high school and then attended Seminary at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.  Following graduation from seminary, Jack and his family moved to the Chicago area, where he pastored a church.  He would then pastor churches in Henderson, TX, Rockdale, TX, and Vernon, TX,  and Arkansas before retiring and moving to Lampasas.  Retirement did not last long, though; he would then serve as a Chaplain at AdventHealth Rollins Brook, a position he thoroughly enjoyed.  His family and church family were everything to Jack.  Jack also rarely ever missed an opportunity to attend his son's extracurricular activities.  Jack also enjoyed woodworking and fishing among many other hobbies.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Billy Gilliland and Jerry Gilliland.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Cheryl Gilliland; his sons, Stephen Gilliland and wife Julie of Ponte Verde, Florida, and Brian Gilliland of Jonestown, Texas; his brother, Rickie Gilliland of Stephenville, Texas; and his grandchildren, Kate and Maddie Gilliland.
