Jackie Edwin Eubanks, 84, passed away on March 10, 2026, in Burnet, TX. He was born on September 20, 1941, in Navasota, Texas to William Roy Eubanks and Maple Irene (Grimes) Eubanks.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Salado United Methodist Church, 650 Royal Street, Salado, Texas, at 11:00 a.m. on April 10, 2026.
Jackie spent his early years in many oil camp towns across Texas before his family settled in Albany, Texas. He attended Albany schools from sixth grade through high school graduation in 1959. Jackie played football, basketball, baseball, ran track, and participated in many social organizations. Competing in almost everything was a joy to him. After high school, he attended Cisco Junior College where he played football, and McMurry College in Abilene, Texas, earning a bachelor's degree in economics in 1964. Soon after graduation, he married Oneta Jo Meixner.
Jackie was a father, CEO, and lifelong leader. He worked over 30 years for the Federal Land Bank, beginning as a loan officer and retiring in 1999 as branch CEO. During his time with the Land Bank, he moved several times around Texas to preside over multiple branch mergers and new office launches. Meanwhile, he taught Sunday school, served on and chaired almost every committee in the church, and was elected to three terms on the School Board. His leadership abilities were apparent and extensive, owing much to his relentless drive, patience, and skill in working with others. His children jokingly called him "Mr. P.R." He enjoyed working with diverse groups in varying situations to find paths for progress.
With all his career and community leadership success, family was most important to Jackie. He was a very loving and present father and grandfather - attending every ball game, performance, or ceremony he possibly could, often loudly calling his offspring by one of the many outlandish nicknames he had for them. A morning person, he never needed an alarm clock to wake up cheerfully. He delighted in boisterously rousing his children each morning and often fixed breakfast and drove them to school. His example of hard work, persistence, and overcoming challenges with grace and calm shaped all those he loved. He was a voracious reader of history and the Bible. He led his family and his life as a Christian man, and that legacy lives and blesses still. Raised in the Baptist church, Jackie joined the United Methodist Church as an adult and remained a faithful member all his life. He frequently reminded his family that each member was prayed for daily.
Jackie was preceded in death by his parents, brother Roy, and nephew Bryan Bunce. He is survived by his daughters, Sabina (Kirk) Knight and Salina (Patrick) Brown and son Ethan (Sonya) Eubanks and his sister Carol (Chuck) Bunce. His grandchildren are Nikaela (Jared) Hutchens, Zane Knight, Arin Knight, Quade (Hannah) Brown, Kinley Eubanks, Wrook Brown, and Kenna Jo Eubanks, and his great-grandchildren are Kase and Ellington Hutchens. He is also survived by many dear nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Salado United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 771, Salado, TX, 76571
