James Charles Vincent

Lampasas

James Charles Vincent, 70, of Lampasas, passed away on May 17, 2026, after a long battle with diabetic complications.

James was born on August 14, 1955, to EP and Edith Hancock Vincent in Biloxi, Mississippi. He spent his childhood in Biloxi with his brothers and Vincent cousins, and most summers in Florence, Mississippi, with his Hancock cousins. When he was 15, he met Roger Fayard, and they became best friends. Jimmy spent a lot of time with Roger and the Fayard family.

Later, Jimmy worked as a cook on an offshore oil rig. While visiting his brother in Houston, he met the love of his life, Janice Griffin, and they were married on August 3, 1979. They lived in Baytown, Texas, and were both employed at Goose Creek Consolidated School District. James worked in maintenance as the school exterminator, and Janice taught school at San Jacinto Elementary. While living in Baytown they met Johnnie and Margie Rowe. They were like adoptive parents as both James' and Janice's families were so far away in Biloxi and Lampasas. The Rowe's grandson Joshua came to live with them when he was 12, because his father had passed. Later, Josh and his family moved to Lampasas, where the Vincents had moved after they retired to live on Janice's family farm. Josh became like a son to them.

Jimmy had a very outgoing personality, never met a stranger, and loved to talk. He also enjoyed working with his hands. He built 2 decks and a bedroom in the mobile home, as well as a storage building and a 2-car garage. His grandfather built several homes in Biloxi. He and Jimmy's parents built their houses in Biloxi, which survived Hurricane Katrina. That house and the one next to it were the only houses left standing on the block after the storm.

He also enjoyed rebuilding pickup trucks. His friend Roger stayed with the Vincents, and the two of them rebuilt several pickups. He also loved Schnauzer dogs.

James was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Phil, and his brother-in-law, Talmedge Nettles.

Survivors include his wife, Janice; Josh, and his family, his brother Robbin of Estowah, NC; his sister, Patsy Nettles of Alabama, and several cousins in Mississippi.

James will be cremated, and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
