On Sunday, June 8, 2025, heaven gained another angel as Jeanette Manuel Roberie passed into eternity and into the loving arms of Jesus. The pain of her loss is lessened by knowing that she is now in the presence of our Heavenly Father.
A Rosary will be recited for Jean at Sneed-Carnley Funeral Chapel in Lampasas on Thursday, June 12, at 6 pm, with visitation to follow until 8 pm. The Funeral Mass will be on Friday, June 13, at 10 am, at St. Mary Catholic Church, with interment to follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Jean was born on August 2, 1933, in Ville Platte, Louisiana. She was the third of four children born to Delta and Blanche Manuel (fondly known to family and friends as Googe and Queenie). Jean grew up in Ville Platte on a rice and crawfish farm, surrounded by a loving family and close-knit community. She attended Sacred Heart Catholic School, where her graduating class consisted of 35 students, including her future husband.
After graduating from high school, Jean left Ville Platte for nursing school in New Orleans. She became a reserve nurse in the Coast Guard, which took her to Providence, Rhode Island, to practice her training during the polio epidemic. While in Providence, Jean fell in love with the fall and the beauty of the changing leaves.
Jean returned to New Orleans after her service in Providence and continued her nursing career at Charity Hospital, where she served as the charge nurse in the new orthopedic unit. She reconnected with her future husband, Ellis Roberie, at their 10-year high school reunion. They were married on April 8, 1961, and had four children together during their 44 years of marriage. Ellis' career as a veterinary medicine sales representative took them to Zachary, Louisiana, Des Moines, Iowa, and Austin, Texas. After retirement, they settled in Lampasas, Texas where they moved to be closer to family and grandchildren.
With Ellis traveling during most weeks, Jean lovingly filled the role of "Best All Around Mom" for her children. They remember that she enrolled them in everything, probably to keep them busy and out of her hair! The whirlwind included swimming, dance, scouting, piano, camping, and sailing. Jean loved her family very much, and they meant everything to her.
Even with the responsibilities of caring for her family, Jean found time to pursue interests of her own. She was an avid bridge player, even teaching the game to others and hosting weekly gatherings in her home to play. She loved quilting, sewing, and knitting, creating many beautiful pieces for family and friends. Jean had a special love for purple martins and delighted in watching them swoop into and around their houses. She always knew when they had arrived for the season.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Ellis, and her daughter, Katherine Jean Roberie. She is survived by three children, John Roberie (Jennifer), Rebecca Roberie, and Laura Ramon (Mitch), as well as grandchildren, Brian Roberie (Tammy), Amy Kay Dietz (Johnston), Bryce Ramon, and Nolan Ramon. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren, Karsyn, Jaxson and Jhett Dietz and Olivia, Jailyn, and Landon Roberie.
The family wishes to thank Becky Perez and Dianne Fritz for their compassionate care of Jean.
In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances may be made to the National Kidney Foundation or the American Lung Association.
