Jewel Clementine Walker

Jewel Clementine Walker one of Lampasas' most beloved and admired citizens passed away on Monday, July 20, 2026, at the age of 90.

Visitation will be held at Sneed-Carnley Funeral Chapel on Sunday, July 26, 2026, from 6 pm to 8pm.  Services will be on Monday, July 27, 2026, 10 am, at First Presbyterian Church in Lampasas.  Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.

We all knew her as "Clem" and she was born on January 14, 1936, in Lampasas.  She was born in the house which she lived in all of her life until the past several years where she resided at Hill Country Nursing and Rehabilitation.  She shared the home at 903 E. Third St with her mother Alma Borders Phillips and her grandmother Hattie Carter Borders.  Her grandfather Thomas Borders was born in 1883 and died April 3, 1918, during the Great Influenza Epidemic.

Clem graduated from Lampasas Colored School on May 26, 1954.  There were three in her graduating class.  She attended Holy Cross School of practical nursing in Austin from 1955-1956.  On April 12, 1966, she began work at Lampasas Nursing Home as a Licensed Vocational Nurse.  She retired from Lampasas Nursing and Rehab in 2023 completing 56 years at that facility.  She was honored at a retirement celebration by the First Presbyterian Church.

Clem was married to Eddie Lee Walker and together they had two sons, James Michael "Catfish" Walker born in 1957 and passed in 2026, and Lyndon Borders Walker born in 1958.  Both of her children attended Lampasas Schools.  She is blessed with three grandchildren, Warren, Christopher and Bobbie; five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. 

Clem enjoyed nothing better than to be at community gatherings while mixing and mingling with her friends, neighbors and acquaintances.  One of her many joys was keeping the street where she lived free of litter all the way from the Third St. bridge to Hackberry.  In July 2008 she received the great honor of being named the Grand Marshall of the Spring Ho Parade.  The celebration lasts a week, and she attended all her favorite events such as the opening ceremonies, beauty pageant, fireworks and her favorite of all, gospel night and of course leading the Grand Parade.

Clem was baptized in Sulphur Creek at an early age by a New Hope Baptist Church minister.  She attended the First Presbyterian Church starting in 1975, where she was always a welcomed participant.

She was loved by her community.
