John Thomas Carswell, Sr.

John Thomas Carswell, Sr., 82, passed away on Saturday, February 19, 2022, at his residence in Copperas Cove surrounded by his loving family. Services will be held at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen on Thursday, March 3, 2022, at 2 pm. John was born on July 21, 1939, in Marion, NC and grew up all over the US due to his dad's job. He served his country in the U.S. Navy for 9 years, serving in the Vietnam War. After his time in the military, he worked at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard where he retired after many years of dedicated service. During his youth, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and he and his wife, Modene had lived in the same house in Virginia Beach for over 40 years before moving to Central Texas in 2007 to be closer to family, especially his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Margaret Stephens. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Modene; sons, John Thomas Carswell, Jr. and wife Angie, Jeff Moffitt; daughter, Amanda Jaynes and husband Grayson; sisters, Joan Britt, Linda Gaines; grandchildren, Matthew Carswell and wife Jesse, Mark Carswell, Luke Carswell, Grayson Jaynes II and Amelia Jaynes.
