Joseph Henry Langford, age 82, lifelong farmer and rancher in Lampasas County, died at his home on March 11, 2021. Henry Langford was born April 20, 1938, to John B. and Ruth Nuckles Langford in Lampasas, TX. He grew up on the banks of the Lampasas River in Northeast Lampasas County. In his early years of education, he attended Unity School in Unity Community until it merged with Lampasas, where he graduated from Lampasas High School in the Class of 1956.
In 1957, Henry married Bobbie Jean Smith of Gatesville, TX. She preceded him in death in 1962. Upon completion of high school, he joined the National Guard. On July 16, 1966, he married Camille McCann of Lometa, TX to whom he was married for 54 years. Together Henry and Camille were parents of Alicia Elizabeth Straley (Robert), Henry John Langford (Kimberley), and Asa Gordan Langford (Jonna).
Henry was the 3rd generation to farm and ranch where he worked alongside his father, brother, and then his two sons and son-in-law. He raised cattle, sheep, and goats, and farmed hay, wheat, and oats. Langford was a member of the Texas Farm Bureau board of directors for 6 years. He was named Young Farmer and Rancher of the Year and later Farmer and Rancher of the Year by Farm Bureau. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also loved Country and Western music and especially loved to listen to fiddle music. He was a member of School Creek Baptist Church for 73 years, where he served as a church deacon for 58 years.
Henry loved to serve his community. He served on the Lampasas Independent School District board of trustees for 6 years. He also served on the Farm Service Agency county committee for 47 years. Henry was a Hamilton County Electric Coop director from 1978-2020. He also served on the First Texas Bank Board of Directors for 34 years, from 1986-2020.
Henry was preceded in death by his parents, John B. and Ruth Langford; wife, Bobbie Jean Langford; brother, John Bert Langford, and sister, Jean Marie Langford.
Survivors include his wife, Camille McCann Langford; daughter, Alicia Straley (Robert); sons, Henry John (Kimberley), Asa (Jonna); sister, Alice Rush; grandchildren, David Henry Straley (Delaney), Ashton Straley, John Brock Langford, Henry Tate Langford, Tenley Langford, Tye Langford and he also leaves behind several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 13, 2021, at First Baptist Church in Lampasas with a graveside service to follow at School Creek Cemetery. The family invites you for a time of fellowship immediately following the graveside service at School Creek Baptist Church.
