Kerry Elizabeth Hammett

November 6, 1963 — January 24, 2022

Kerry Elizabeth Hammett of Lampasas, Texas passed into Heaven on January 24, 2022, in Fredericksburg, Texas.

A memorial service will be held at Grace Fellowship Church in Lampasas on Monday, February 7, 2022, at 11 am.  Sneed-Carnley Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Kerry was born on November 6, 1963, in St. Louis, Missouri to Gene and Jane (Clausen) Kuyrkendall.  She grew up in Adel, Iowa, and graduated from Adel-Desoto High School in 1982.  After high school, she along with other family members moved to Austin, Texas.  She married Rodney Guccini in 1987 and later they would move to Glenwood Springs, Colorado, and operate a large plumbing company until his death in 2000.

She would move back to Canyon Lake, Texas where she met Craig Hammett who lived next door to her parents.  On June 1, 2002, they were married in Fischer, Texas.  Kerry decided to return to nursing school and completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio in December of 2007.

At the same time, cancer was discovered, but would not deter her from the pursuit of helping others.  Eventually, Kerry and Craig would move to Lampasas where Craig coached and Kerry would work in Home Health Care in the rural areas around Lampasas.  Kerry then decided to pursue teaching and taught the Certified Nursing Assistant program at Lampasas High School.

Even though the disease forced her from teaching, she continued to help others through counseling and support.  She had for many years been involved in the youth programs at churches in Canyon Lake and Lampasas and was a past board member of Young Life.

Kerry loved God and knew her path.  Her laugh was loud and strong.  She loved the wildflowers of the Texas Hill Country, the beaches of Aransas, and the mountains of Colorado.  Most of all she loved the joy and strength of her faith, her family, and her friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents.  She is survived by her husband, Craig Hammett, of Lampasas; brothers, Tim Kuyrkendall (Lisa) of Canyon Lake, David Kuyrkendall (Kim) of Austin, and Mark Kuyrkendall; step-children, Nichole Guccini of Sacramento, California, Travis Guccini; nephews, Sean Kuyrkendall of Denton, and Dylan and Shane Kuyrkendall of Austin; uncle and aunt, Art and Marlene Clausen of Canyon Lake; and numerous loved cousins.  Special thoughts to cousin Cindy Mangels (Greg, Evan, Ben) of Kearney, Nebraska, and friend May Dehaan of Des Moines, Iowa and Liz Lantry of San Antonio.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations are made to the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance, American Cancer Society, or a church youth organization of your choice.
