Lawson Wendell Trantham passed away peacefully on July 2, 2026, in Killeen, Texas, at the age of 90. Born on January 2, 1936, in Jack County, Texas, Lawson’s long and remarkable life was defined by dedication to his family, service to his country, and a steadfast work ethic that impacted all who knew him.

Lawson’s journey began in the heart of Texas, where he attended Midland High School. There, he graduated in 1957, leaving his mark not only academically but also on the football field, where he proudly lettered and exemplified the spirit of teamwork and perseverance that would guide him throughout his life.

In 1958, Lawson made the honorable decision to join the United States Army. He devoted 22 years to military service, rising to the rank of Master Sergeant (MSG) before retiring. His commitment to the armed forces was characterized by integrity, discipline, and a profound sense of duty to his country.

Following his military career, Lawson entered a new chapter of public service with the Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT). He worked for 23 and a half years after leaving the military, where his reliable service and professionalism earned him the respect of colleagues and the gratitude of his community.

In 1991, Lawson married Joann Schneider. Their union was a source of immense joy, steadfast companionship, and mutual support over the years they shared together. Though Joann preceded him in death, her memory remained close to Lawson’s heart.

Lawson is survived by Cynthia Burleson, Tina Trantham, and Gene Scoggins; as well as his nieces and nephews, who carry forward his legacy of strength, kindness, and resilience. His life was also shaped by the loving relationship he shared with his late wife, Joann Schneider.

Throughout his years, whether as a young athlete, a dedicated soldier, a loyal civil servant, or a beloved family member, Lawson approached every endeavor with humility, sincerity, and unwavering loyalty. His quiet strength and steady presence will be dearly missed by all who had the honor of knowing him.
