Maria de Lourdes "Lulu" Sanchez Ramp
February 10, 1951 – June 2, 2026
With heavy hearts, our family shares the passing of Maria de Lourdes "Lulu" Sanchez Ramp, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Lulu passed away peacefully at home on June 2, 2026, at the age of 75. While her passing leaves an immeasurable void in our hearts, we are grateful for God's grace in calling her home peacefully and without suffering.
If you wanted to know what was happening in the family, you asked Lulu.
She always knew.
She knew who was traveling, who was working, who was under the weather, who had exciting news to share, and who needed a little extra love and encouragement. Family was the center of her world, and she made it her mission to stay connected to the people she loved.
Born on February 10, 1951, in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, Lulu was the youngest of nine children. She carried throughout her life the strength, humor, resilience, and devotion to family that came from being part of a large and loving family.
In 1974, she married Leo C. Ramp Jr., and together they built a life that took them around the world through military service, including nine years in Germany. Along the way, they raised three children, formed lifelong friendships, and created countless memories. In 1993, they settled in Copperas Cove, Texas, in the home that would remain at the heart of the Ramp family for more than three decades.
To her grandchildren, she was simply Yeya and Bueli. Those titles brought her immense pride and joy. Nothing made her happier than hearing about the lives of her children and grandchildren and staying connected to every detail.
Lulu enjoyed bingo, loved her pets, treasured family visits, and was never one to keep her opinions to herself. Her favorite saying, "Chancla for free," remains one of the many expressions that will forever bring smiles and laughter to those who knew and loved her.
Her faith was a quiet but constant part of her life. She was known for keeping a prayer candle lit—so often that family members occasionally joked it was a fire hazard. Whether celebrating good news or worrying over someone she loved, Lulu always seemed to have a candle ready!
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo C. Ramp Jr.; her parents, Jose and Manuela Sanchez; her brothers, Jose, Martin, Alfredo, and Jorge Sanchez Sr.; and her sisters, Olga Sanchez, Norma Herrera, and Alicia Barroso.
She is survived by her sister, Lilia Esparza; her daughter, Elizabeth (Lissy) Dailey and husband Greg, of Tomball, Texas; her daughter, Lilia (Lily) Duque and husband Fausto, of Cypress, Texas; her son, Leo C.(Sonny) Ramp III and wife Courtney, of Copperas Cove, Texas; her grandchildren, Grant, Griffin, Cameron, Grayson, Kadin, and Kaylie; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Those who knew Lulu understood that a part of her heart left with Leo when he passed away. Although she continued to cherish time with her family, she missed him deeply.
In her later years, Lulu was blessed to remain in the home she loved so dearly. Her son, Sonny and his wife, Courtney, moved into her home with their family and became her full-time caregivers, surrounding her with love, support, and companionship each day. Their devotion allowed Lulu to remain where she was happiest, cared for by family. Lissy and Lily are deeply grateful for the love, sacrifice, and care they provided, giving them peace of mind knowing their mother was always in loving hands.
Surrounded by the comforts of home and the love of family, Lulu passed away exactly where she would have wanted to be.
Later this month, Lulu will be laid to rest beside Leo at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, reuniting them once again after more than four years apart.
Though she is no longer with us, Lulu's love remains in the family she cherished and the countless memories she created with those she loved.
As we say goodbye, we take comfort in knowing she is once again with Leo, and we carry forward one of their favorite reminders:
"En vida, hermana, en vida."
"In life, sister. In life."
