Mary Frances MacConnell Ferry died on May 3, 2025, at the age of 81. Mary lived most of her adult life in New Orleans and Metairie, LA. She was born on October 29, 1943, in Leesburg, Florida, and lived in Key West, New Orleans, Great Inagua Island, British Bahamas, Georgia, Alabama, Peekskill, NY, Pittsburgh, Metairie, and Lampasas.
Mary attended elementary schools at St. Louis Cathedral, New Orleans, and Gr. Inagua. She graduated from high school at the age of 16 from St. Mary's School in Peekskill, NY. From there, she received an English degree from Chatham College in Pittsburgh, PA, and a Law degree from Loyola Law School in New Orleans. She worked for Met Life Insurance, Shell Oil, and taught English at Arch. Chapelle High School.
Mary volunteered for the League of Women Voters on Equal Rights Amendment, was a Law Clerk for Chief Justice Pascal Calogero in the Louisiana Supreme Court, a Law Clerk for Judge Veronica Wicker in the Federal Courts, and worked at the Law Office of Jim Donnelon and the Law Firm of Frilot Partridge. She taught legal writing at UNO night school and taught reading to adults. Mary served as a board member for Mount Carmel Day Care and served as vestry member and choir member at St. Augustine Episcopal Church.
Mary is survived by William J. Ferry, her husband of 59 years; her brother, James H. MacConnell (Amy), and Sean MacConnell. She is also survived by her children, Elizabeth Ferry Pekins (Charles) and Joseph Q. Ferry, as well as her grandchildren, Claire Lauren Pekins and Charles William Pekins, and 31 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. James MacConnell and Elizabeth Eastwood MacConnell.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 19, at 12:00 pm, preceded by visitation starting at 9:00 am. Services will be at St. Augustine Episcopal Church, 3401 Green Acres St., Metairie, LA.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Texas flood victims would be appreciated or to a charity of your choice in Mary's name.
