Matt Franklin

June 21, 1959 — June 1, 2025

Copperas Cove, Texas

Matt Franklin, a beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2025, in Copperas Cove, Texas, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Leesville, Louisiana, on June 21, 1959, Matt brought a vibrant spirit into the world, one that would flourish and touch countless lives throughout his 65 years.

A proud graduate of Copperas Cove High School, class of 1977, Matt embodied a personality that was both fun-loving and hard-working, his laughter echoing in the hearts of all who knew him. With an unparalleled sense of humor, he had a gift for bringing light to even the darkest days, reminding us all not to take life too seriously. His motto, “One More, I gotta Go,” was a testament to his zest for life and his endless pursuit of joy, whether fishing on the river, hunting in the woods, or cheering on his cherished Dallas Cowboys.

Matt found solace and happiness in live music, and he cherished the moments spent surrounded by family and friends. His love for those dear to him was evident in all he did, and he was known as a steadfast presence filled with warmth and support.

He leaves behind his devoted spouse, Shiela Parker, who stood by his side through life's highs and lows. Their bond was strengthened by shared memories and laughter. He is also survived by his loving daughter, Cortney Homan, and her husband, Phillip Homan, as well as his stepdaughter, Jessica Heinzman. Their hearts will always carry his spirit, and their love for him will never fade. He is deeply missed and forever cherished. Matt’s legacy lives on through his beloved granddaughters, Makenzi and Brooke, whose smiles brought him endless joy and whose hearts he touched in ways that will never be forgotten. They will carry his love with them always.

Matt also leaves behind his siblings: Susan Adames, Cindy Hull and her husband, John; Pamela Oswald and her husband, Dave; Frances Long and her husband, Ronald; Becky Janssen and her husband, Chris; and Michael Franklin with his wife, Ruby along with several nieces and nephews that he cherished. Each shared a bond with Matt that was both deep and enduring, filled with shared stories, laughter, and love.

He was predeceased in death by his parents, Eloise “Peggy” Franklin and James Edward Franklin, with whom he shared an unconditional love that shaped the person he became. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Christopher Franklin, whose absence is keenly felt by those left behind and taught him just how much life should be cherished.

Matt Franklin's memory will shimmer like the stars on a warm summer night, reminding us that life is to be lived fully, openly, and with joy. His spirit will forever dance alongside the laughter and love that he imparted to all those who had the privilege of knowing him. A more vibrant, humorous, and genuine soul could scarcely be imagined, and while he may have left this earthly plane, his laughter, his spirit, and his love will remain with us always.
