Mike Wayne Kriegel, BSCE., RPLS, PE, 67, of Lampasas, Texas, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday, September 23, 2025. He was born on July 24, 1958, to Martin John and Bessie Lee in Kenedy, Texas.

Mike was born in Kenedy, Texas, and lived in New Braunfels, where he started first grade. The family moved to Irving, Texas, where Mike finished first grade through freshman year at Nimitz High School. He and his family then moved to Cypress, Texas, where he attended and graduated from Cy-Fair High School in 1976. After high school, he attended Texas A&M University in College Station, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering in 1980.

Mike was passionate about surveying and passed the surveyors' exam, becoming a Registered Professional Land Surveyor in 1985. He worked at Jones & Carter, where he met Shirley. Mike also worked as a Civil Engineer on Fort Hood. After leaving Fort Hood, Mike decided to branch out and work for himself. His crew consisted of Darryl Lawson and his brother-in-law, Mike Painter. Sometimes his wife Shirley would help with the fieldwork, occasionally bringing the girls out too.

In 1997, he passed the exam and became a Professional Engineer. He joined Mitchell & Associates in 1999, where he became a partner for 26 years and developed many lasting relationships. Mike's life was marked by mischievous humor, civil engineering and land surveying, hunting with his beloved dogs, charity events, guns galore, and making knives in his free time. His warmth, sense of humor, and unwavering love for his family will never be forgotten.

Mike will be remembered as a devoted husband, dad, grandpa, and brother. He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Kriegel; his children, Sarah Blakley and husband Evan, and Jessica Turner and husband Tyrel; his cherished grandchildren, Maya Kriegel, Everett Blakley, Eleanor Turner, and Harlan Turner. He is also survived by his twin brother, Dale Kriegel, and wife Kim, along with extended family and many dear friends.

Mike is preceded in death by his mother, Bessie Lee Kriegel; his father, Martin John Kriegel; his mother-in-law, Fujie Painter; and his father-in-law, Chester Harlan Painter.
