Milton Sterling, a beloved member of the Lampasas community, passed away on February 3rd, 2024 at the age of 80. Born on March 21st, 1943 in Teague, TX, Milton's life was one filled with dedication and passion for his work and loved ones. His unwavering commitment to his profession and genuine love for his family leaves behind a legacy that will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Milton dedicated over two decades of his life working as a Director of Maintenance at Hayes ISD. His exceptional skills as a master electrician were highly regarded by both colleagues and students alike. Throughout his career, Milton's dedication to ensuring comfort and safety for all who walked through the school's doors was truly admirable.

Prior to his notable career in education, Milton proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. His military service exemplified his selflessness and commitment to protecting the freedoms we hold dear. The courage and resilience he displayed during his time in the armed forces were foundational to the values he carried with him throughout his life.

While Milton was certainly passionate about his profession and service to his country, it was in his personal life that he found solace and immense joy. He possessed an adventurous spirit that led him to embrace hobbies such as hunting and fishing. Nature provided him with a sense of peace and tranquility that brought him great fulfillment. Additionally, Milton found immense satisfaction in building things with his own hands - a testament to his remarkable craftsmanship.

Milton's extraordinary life was enriched by numerous cherished relationships, none more significant than that with the love of his life, Letha McCoy Sterling. The couple enjoyed 54 beautiful years together, sharing countless memories filled with love, laughter, and mutual support. Their bond was an inspiration to all who witnessed it firsthand.

Milton was preceded in death by his parents, William Lacy Sterling and wife Jean Sterling and Lucille Crews and husband George, his son, Kyle Sterling, and his brother, Jerry Sterling.

Survivors include his wife, Letha McCoy Sterling; his daughters, Mary McCowen, Emma Wyatt (Lew), Leza Faulkner, Darla Whatley, Terry Sterling, Ashlie Amaya (Marcus); his son, Eric Nichols; his God son, Don Howington; his brother, Joseph Sterling; his sisters, Ida Londo, Sarah Norton, Glenna Weatherly, Sue Nally, Patsy Sterling; 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. 

Milton will be remembered for his warmth and kindness that touched the lives of all who knew him. He was a man of integrity and strong moral character. His impact on his community and those who had the privilege of calling him family or friend cannot be overstated.

Milton Sterling leaves behind a legacy filled with love and compassion. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to have known him.
