Nancy Lou Thogmartin

Nancy Lou (Burns) Thogmartin was born on March 20, 1945, to David and Mattie Burns at home on their ranch in Lometa, Texas.  She was the youngest of Dave and Mattie's 8 children and went to school in Lometa.  A lifetime resident of Lampasas County, she deeply loved her community and dedicated her life to serving the people around her.

A Celebration of Life will be held at First Street Church of Christ on Friday, June 12, 2026, at 10 am with visitation an hour prior.  Burial will be private.

Nancy was a true survivor whose life was marked by both hardships and triumphs.  She faced many challenges with remarkable courage and resilience, enduring difficult seasons that would have discouraged many.  Through times of struggle and adversity, she remained steadfast, drawing strength from her faith, her family and her determination to create a better life.

Nancy had many careers during her lifetime, including a job at Citizen State Bank in Lometa and as owner operator of Nancy's House of Beauty as a cosmetologist where she enjoyed helping people look and feel their best.  Never one to stop learning, she later pursued a new calling in healthcare.  In 1993, she earned her Associate Degree in Nursing from Central Texas College.  She went on to serve her community as a nurse at Rollins Brook Hospital, where she was known for her compassion, dedication, and commitment to her patients.  Drawing on her background as a hairdresser, Nancy often integrated her love of beauty and nursing by styling her patients' hair while they were in the hospital. 

Nancy is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Tommy Thogmartin; her 3 children, Stephen Schueneman (Michelle), James Thogmartin (Jessica), and Kristi Thogmartin Rohskopf (Thaddeus); her grandchildren, Colby Schueneman, Axel Tamez, Morton Rohskopf, Henry Rohskopf as well a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.  She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Floyd Burns (MIA and casualty of WWII), Cecil Burns, Robert Burns, and Walter Burns, as well as her sisters, Lorene McLeroy, Faye Collins McGinnis and Sue Lancaster.

Her family finds comfort in knowing that her life was one of service, love, and devotion to those around her.  She will be greatly missed and forever remembered for her incredible sense of humor, kind heart, strong work ethic, and willingness to help anyone in need.
