Neta Ruth Shirley Schaub, 83, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 6, 2021, at her residence surrounded by her loving family.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 9, 2021, at Sneed Funeral Chapel from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at First Baptist Church Lampasas on Wednesday, March 10, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. with interment to follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Neta was born on March 23, 1937, in Gatesville, Texas to Joe Frank Shirley Sr. and Ruth Alberta Rhoads Shirley. Neta’s years in the work-force were spent as a secretary and stenographer for insurance agencies, a “sitter” for Rollins Brook Hospital, secretary for Lampasas Health Unit, a clerk for the Texas Department of Health, secretary for JTPA representative out of CTC, and a teacher’s aide for the Life Skills Class at Lampasas Middle School. Neta alongside her late husband, Reid, started first grade together in Gatesville ISD and were charter members of the graduating class of 1955. Also alongside Reid, she was a member of Broad St. Church of Christ for 14 years before their family and a group of Christians began worshiping together under the name Community Church with Reid serving as the full-time minister.
She was preceded in death by husband of 58 years, Reid Schaub in 2014; her parents, Joe F. Shirley, Sr. and Ruth Shirley; sister, Gladys Lowery; brothers, Joe Frank Shirley, Jr., Billy Don Shirley, Harold Shirley, “Infant boy” Shirley; grandson, Elijah Blane McDonald and great-grandson, Reagan Levi Ervin; sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Shirley, Fadene Shirley; brother-in-law, James Lowery.
Survivors include her daughters, Melodi Jackson, Valori Ervin, and husband, Tony; her sons, Craig Schaub and wife, Sandra, Roland Schaub and wife, Carla; brothers, Carroll Shirley and wife, Jane, Eugene Shirley and wife, Linda, Wayne Shirley and wife, Jay; sister-in-law, Patsy Shirley; grandchildren, Monica, Reid, Luke, Cord, Corby, Cayle, Jacob, Kait, Ben G., Shawna, Matt, Markus, Jerome, Jason, Kimberly, Ben R., Leslie, Jarrett, Kendal, Jack, and Mesha; great-grandchildren, Lina, Mason, Ruth Anne, Nolan, Baize, Brooks, Tatum, Jaxon, Kingsley, Hannah, Coy, Olivia, Logan, Sean, Austin, Jenna, Mason, Allie, Ellie, Flynn, Merritt, Norah, Ethan, William, Oliver, Jovi, Lou, Leni, Braydon, Paisley; great-great-grandson, Liam and numerous nieces, nephews and other loving family members.
