Reuben Lee Nuckles, 82, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2023.

Funeral services will be held at School Creek Baptist Church on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at 10:30 am with interment to follow at Smith Cemetery at School Creek.

Reuben was born March 3, 1941 to Joseph Aaron and Lucille Alline Champion Nuckles at Rollins Brook Hospital in Lampasas.  The youngest of six children, Reuben grew up in the Unity Community where he developed a love of outdoors, hunting and fishing the Lampasas River.  He played football for Lampasas High School, where he was in the class of 1959.

After high school, he journeyed to Idaho with several adventurous friends to work for the US Forest Service, constructing and maintaining trails and firefighting within the Clearwater National Forest.  He also worked winters on an Idaho ranch.

Reuben returned to Lampasas and worked at Guyco Construction for many years.  He then opened the Antique Emporium on the Square in Lampasas, which he operated until retirement.

Reuben was a beloved member of the Lampasas and Burnet communities.  He was a kind, caring and generous person, evidenced by his many good friends in both areas.  An avid storyteller, Reuben could keep people smiling as he recalled stories and adventures of his youth.  On any given afternoon he could be found playing Moon with his friends at the antique store, a tradition which continued throughout his life.  He was an expert gardener and was generous with the proceeds, giving much of it to friends and family.  He was a member of School Creek Baptist Church.

Reuben was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Aaron and Lucille Alline Champion Nuckles; his wife, Jimmie Williamson Nuckles; his brothers, Joseph Paul Nuckles and James Frank Nuckles, and his sister, Joanna Pauline Nuckles Littrell.  He is survived by his sister, Mary Nuckles Casbeer, and brothers, WA Nuckles and Steve Nuckles.
