Richard Neal Evans

August 26, 1941 — August 9, 2020

Richard Neal Evans, 78, passed away on August 9, 2020 at his home in Lampasas, Texas. He was born August 26, 1941 in Brooklyn, New York to Robley and Edna Whiting Evans. Rich grew up in Fort. Lauderdale, Florida and graduated from Stranahan High School in 1959. After high school he attended the University of Florida where he was involved in ROTC and band and got his degree in journalism and communications. He went into finance and business which lasted over 20 years, fifteen years of that time he was involved with ITT financial services. He was then hired in Lakeland, Florida where he spent two years as an EVP of the Florida Jaycees. ITT sent him from Florida to Atlanta, from Atlanta to Denver, finally landing in Minneapolis for 10 years. Rich then worked for Mutual of Omaha and Southwest Business Corporation. After that he opened his own graphics shop called Gator Graphics and was with Pill Box pharmacies for 5 years. Rich had many interests in his life. He was a fabulous artist as evidenced by all the cartoons he wrote and mailed out on birthdays. Rich also loved to cook and would be considered a master chef, which he would have liked to done professionally. Rich did all the graphics for the Chordsmen, Hill Country Chorus and Heart of Texas. He was probably the most happy, upbeat and funny guy there was. He wrote great scripts for show and routines and was great at telling a corny joke. Rich was also a prolific reader, reading some 50 books per month, he simply could not get enough reading material. Rich was also a great singer and a real pleasure to sing with. He learned music by constantly practicing on rehearsal tapes. He sang in quartets in Minnesota and San Antonio. He was a member of BHS for 42 years and he had such a strong voice. He sang with the Chordsmen, Hill Country Chorus and went to international contests several times with Heart of Texas. He was an asset wherever he sang. He had many awards, including Barbershopper of the Year and trophies for many other accomplishments. Memorial Services are planned for a later date and time.
