Robert Eugene Marquis, a loving family man, skilled diesel mechanic, and gifted nature photographer, passed away peacefully on March 15, 2026, in Kempner, Texas. Born on July 21, 1955, in Ridgecrest, California, Robert lived a life marked by dedication, creativity, and a deep passion for the outdoors.
From an early age, Robert found joy in the natural world, a love that blossomed into his remarkable talent for photography. His keen eye captured the subtle beauty of nature, reflecting his enduring respect for the environment. Beyond his artistic pursuits, he was a highly skilled diesel mechanic, known for his diligence and precision in his craft.
Robert proudly served his country as a Cryptographic Machine Operator in the United States Army, a role that demonstrated his commitment and discipline. His military service was a testament to his sense of duty and honor.
Among Robert’s proudest accomplishments was his voluntary work with Camp Cowboy, an organization dedicated to supporting veterans and public service members. His commitment to this cause was deeply meaningful, reflecting his gratitude and solidarity with those who serve.
He found great fulfillment in sharing his passions with his family, especially his grandchildren. Whether camping, fishing, or building remote-controlled boats, Robert’s enthusiasm was infectious, and his lessons left lasting impressions on those he loved. Robert is lovingly remembered by his wife, Michelle Marquis, and his children: Rainbow Hughes, married to Derrick Hughes; Robert Zachary McClinton; and Jason Marquis. He also leaves behind several cherished grandchildren, as well as brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, and friends who valued his companionship and unwavering support.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Katie Marquis; brothers David Alford and Freddie Marquis; and his beloved parents—mother Barbara, father Frederick, and stepfather Bud.
