Russell Eugene Bussey, affectionately known as "Rusty," was born on January 26, 1963, in Shields Township, Illinois. He passed away on January 24, 2026, in Kempner, Texas, surrounded by the loving care of his family as he battled cancer.
Rusty was a dedicated professional, running a successful drywall finishing business for many years while leading a crew of workers with determination and expertise. His strong work ethic and commitment to his craft earned him the respect of many in the industry.
A nomad at heart, Rusty found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was often quiet but never hesitated to speak his mind when the moment called for it. He was endowed with a great sense of humor that could brighten the darkest of days. Rusty cherished the great outdoors, frequently taking his boat out on weekends to enjoy fishing. There were moments when he would even sleep on his boat if camping wasn't on the agenda. He had a love for adventure and nature, always searching for gold wherever he could, engaging in the art of gold panning. His passion for music was evident as he loved to play his guitar during quiet moments.
Rusty was particularly fond of his vans, as he remained loyal to that particular vehicle type throughout his life. At home, he was known for always having the largest television he could find, reflecting his larger-than-life personality and zest for enjoyment.
He is survived by his life partner, Ida Gayton; his daughter, Janell Bullock; his son, Brandyn Bussey; his father, Harold Bussey; and his sisters, Leilani Naraine, Laura Murray, and Neeley Guthrie. Rusty also leaves behind numerous grand children, as well as, nieces and nephews, who will remember him fondly.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Virginia Jamison Bussey, and his brother, Len Bussey.
Russell Eugene Bussey will be remembered not only for his professional accomplishments but also for his adventurous spirit and the love he shared with his family. His legacy of laughter, love, and resilience will continue to resonate in the hearts of all who knew him.
