Sandra Bertha Alverson

June 5, 1937 — January 10, 2026

Copperas Cove, Texas

Sandra Bertha Alverson, a devoted mother, volunteer, and compassionate spirit, was born on June 5, 1937, in Albany, New York. She departed from this world on January 10, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, resilience, and unparalleled generosity.

Sandra’s quick intellect led a firm to hire her as a bookkeeper, a role that not only showcased her talents and determination but also served to support her beloved family. As a steadfast military wife, her life was marked by constant moves and adaptations. She embraced each new environment with grace, navigating the challenges of military life while bringing joy and stability to her family. One of her cherished positions was serving as a child development specialist at Ft. Hood in Killeen, Texas, where she eagerly nurtured the minds of the younger generation. Retirement did not slow her down; she devoted her time to volunteering, teaching children the joy of reading, and assisting with treasury services at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Copperas Cove, Texas.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Sandra was a veritable treasure trove of memories and adventures. One heartwarming tale from the 1970s speaks of a spirited treasure hunt prompted by a local radio station. Convinced of her knowledge of the treasure's location, she rallied her children out of bed, dressed them warmly, and embarked on a nighttime escapade under the stars, searching for riches supposedly hidden beneath a bridge. Though the treasure remained elusive, the adventure became a cherished memory, encapsulating the spirit of childhood and the joy of togetherness.

In all aspects of her life, Sandra’s innate generosity shone brightly. Inspired by her mother, Marion Stegmann, she opened her heart and home to those in need, embodying the essence of Christ’s servant to whom she was so faithfully committed. Her devotion extended beyond her own children; she naturally mothered any child fortunate enough to cross her path, leaving an indelible mark of love and care wherever she went.

Sandra found great pride in her family, having successfully raised five kindhearted children: Lawrence Moyer, Lynn Ruse, Lee Moyer, Lorra Moyer, and Elizabeth Zaragoza. She relished the role of grandmother and great-grandmother, nurturing and guiding each subsequent generation with the same boundless love that she provided her own. Her hobbies included reading, crafting, and diligently working on puzzles, activities that she shared with friends and family alike, enriching their lives through her passions.

Sadly, her time on earth concluded when her heart grew too large for her earthly body, leaving a profound void in the lives of those who had the privilege of knowing her. She joins her beloved husband, Theodore Alverson, and her cherished family members who preceded her: her parents, Fredrick and Marion Stegmann; her sisters, Marion Endryck and Patricia Wills; and her brother, David Stegmann. She is survived by a sister, Ardeth Harder, and her children, Larry Moyer, Lynn Ruse, Lee Moyer, Lorra Moyer, and Elizabeth Zaragoza.  She is additionally survived by her grandchildren, Daphney Ellsworth, Valarie Alcorn, Heather Smith, and Meghan Saavedra-Smith and her great grandchildren, Jacob Reese, Janelle Kyles, Michael Kyles, Gavin Alcorn, Charlotte Smith, Audrey Smith, Alfred Smith V, and Marceline Saavedra-Smith.

Sandra Bertha Alverson came into this world humbly and asked to leave it the same way, insisting on no memorial service; the family will honor those wishes. She will be interred at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Texas, where her spirit will continue to watch over her family and friends. Her memory will endure, cherished by all who knew and loved her, as a testament to a life well-lived and a heart that knew no bounds. If any friends would like to do something in her honor for the family, it would be a blessing to have any of the following done: an act of kindness to a stranger, a rosary said for her, or donations made to a fund, named after Sandra's mother, Marion Stegmann that brings the spirit of Christmas to those in need in Sandra's hometown of Niverville, NY and the surrounding area. Donations can be mailed to: The Marion Stegmann Fund c/o Kinderhook Elks # 2530; PO Box 514, Kinderhook, NY 12106 or made online:  https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/donation-form/marion-stegmann-fund
