Copperas Cove

William A. Kammerer, age 81, of Copperas Cove, passed away on Monday, April 5, 2021. Graveside Services will be held on Thursday at 10:00 am April 15, 2021, at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen. Visitation will be held from 5-7 pm on Wednesday at Viss Family Funeral Home, 1614 S. FM 116, Copperas Cove, TX 76522.

Bill was born in Chicago, Il to the late William Albert Kammerer Sr. and Esther Viola Dillon. He was raised and attended school in Chicago before joining the United States Army. While serving in Germany he met Anna Schaftner and they married on June 10, 1961, in Germany. She supported him throughout his many duty stations and eventually ended up at Fort Hood, retiring after 20 years of service.  They settled in Copperas Cove and he worked for Civil Service for another 20 years. Bill enjoyed traveling to see family and would sneak away to fish whenever he could.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, James Kammerer and a sister, Carol Kennelly.

Bill is survived by his wife of 59 years, Anna Kammerer; children, Angelika Altum, William Kammerer and wife Rachel, Diana Barnum and husband Clifford; one brother, John Kammerer; five grandchildren, John Altum, Christina Hertel, Zachary Barnum, Nicholas Barnum, Bailey Kammerer; four great-grandchildren, Lilly Altum, Cassidy Altum, Abbie Hertel, and Ian Hertel; and many nieces and nephews.
