Fletcher Ross Womack, age 79, passed away at home in Copperas Cove on Monday, May 17, 2021. A Memorial Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, May 26, 2021, at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen with military honors.
Fletcher was born on September 14, 1941, in Griffin, Georgia to the late Jerrold and Lucille Fincher Womack. He joined the United States Army where he served for nearly 30 years. Fletcher was awarded numerous awards and commendations throughout his military career. Fletcher enjoyed his time as a drill sergeant the most. While serving overseas, he met Gertrud Jazek and they married on March 15, 1966, in Budinger, Germany. They later settled in Copperas Cove after his retirement. He loved to spend time in his woodshop making intricate designs with his scroll saw. He also enjoyed spending time in Austria with Gertrud’s family.
Fletcher was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
Fletcher is survived by his wife of 55 years, Gertrud Womack; daughter, Isabell Womack; one sister, and two grandsons.
