Sherry Jane Witcher

Sherry Jane Witcher, age 78, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2025, at Stoney Brook Assisted Living in Copperas Cove, TX, after a lengthy illness.  She was born in Lampasas, TX, to Charles W. Rutty and Hazel Joyce Black Rutty.

Funeral services will be held at Sneed-Carnley Funeral Chapel in Lampasas on Sunday, November 16, 2025, at 2 pm with visitation an hour prior.  Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Sherry was a woman of many talents and hobbies.  Her creativity could be seen in her cooking, sewing, and knack for decorating.  She loved to travel and traveled extensively throughout Europe, while living there as a child with her family, and then again with her husband and young children later in life.  She treasured those memories and experiences.  Sherry also enjoyed life in the country and tending animals, playing golf, her time in the Garden Club, Officers' Wives Club, Las Damas at Central Texas College, and an Advisory Committee at CTC.

Sherry attended Lampasas High School and Central Texas College, where she took engineering classes that led to a 30-year career in the engineering department at Centel Corporation, which eventually became Sprint Corporation.  While at Sprint, in addition to her engineering work, she was passionate about her work for United Way and the March of Dimes.

Sherry was preceded in death by her mother, Hazel Joyce Setty; her father, Charles Rutty; her beloved step-fathers, Harold A. Tharp (Daddy) and Eugene W. Setty; and her beloved brother, Charles David Rutty.

Sherry loved her family fiercely and found much joy in her loved ones.  Those left behind to cherish her memory are her four children, Shelly Mahan (Dane) of San Saba, Allison East (Bobby) of Waco, Ken Witcher of Baltimore, Maryland, and Andy Witcher (Melissa) of Lampasas; her sisters, Teresa Mathews of Henderson, Nevada, Cindy Kalinowski of Quapaw, Oklahoma; her sister-in-law, Judy Rutty of Flower Mound; her step-sister, Tammy Utley of Oxford, Michigan and step-brother, Mike Setty of Mt. Pleasant.  Sherry was lovingly known as Mema to 13 grandchildren, Shayna Stewart, Kami Pipes, Colby Mahan, Jesica Witcher, Robert East, Levi Witcher, Austin Witcher, Phelicia Hartwell, Caelan Witcher, Chase Witcher, Brady Witcher, Hunter Witcher, Garrett Witcher; eight great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Pallbearers: Brady Witcher, Hunter Witcher, Garrett Witcher, Colby Mahan, Sean Stewart, and Donny Pipes.

Honorary Pallbearers: Levi Witcher, Austin Witcher, Caelan Witcher, Chase Witcher, and Robert East.
