Steve Raymond Mooney, 71, of Lampasas, passed away Tuesday, September 14, 2021, at Advent Health Central Texas in Killeen. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 23, 2021, from 6 pm to 8 pm at Sneed Funeral Chapel. Graveside Services will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery on Saturday, September 25, 2021, at 10 am. Steve was born on February 7, 1950, and raised in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Northern Georgia to parents, Elder Lawrence Joseph Mooney and Ruby Annette Smith. He graduated from Gilmer High school in 1969. At the age of 20, he joined the Army and served for 6 years, during which time he was sent to Vietnam as a Black Hawk Fighter helicopter mechanic. Upon his return to the states, he was stationed in Fort Hood, bringing him here to the hill country of central Texas where he would be introduced to his future wife. Steve married Reba Inez Crocker, daughter of Henry "Lloyd" and Tyda Lee Pearce Crocker on June 15, 1973. They had been married for 48 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family, reading, country/western and romance novels, coloring, and playing games. Steve had been a member of the First Assembly of God (now Christ the Rock Church). He maintained the lawn for many years and was involved in the Royal Rangers Program. He helped build and put together countless props and stages for Christmas programs and other events. He also designed and constructed one-of-a-kind puppet stages for the kid's church ministry. He enjoyed and was active in the praise and worship ministry as he worked the soundboards in the church's sound booth for a number of years. Steve may be remembered for his time working for Lampasas Butane Gas Company. He was a certified whirlpool appliance service and repairman traveling throughout the Lampasas and Burnet County areas. He delivered, set up, serviced, and repaired major home appliances for 33 years before retiring. His wife Reba, worked as a cashier, first at Crockers Family Grocery Store and later was a cashier at HEB for nearly 20 years. Between the both of them, it seemed they knew almost every family in Lampasas. Together, they adopted and raised their daughter, Jill Marie. Steve was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Ellen Ridehalgh, her husband Des, and his nephew, their son, Desmond, and brother-in-law, Jackie Bramlett. Survivors include his wife, Reba Crocker of Lampasas; sister, Hilda Bramlett and three nieces, Liz, Linda, and Leslie of Smyrna, GA; sister, Donna and husband, Ricky Bishop; niece, Naomi; nephew, Dakota; daughter, Jill Marie, and husband, Tony Quenomoen of Brownwood, TX; 5 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren and numerous cousins and other family members. Steve was a beloved husband, father, and grandpa who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered. Memorial donations may be made to Sneed Funeral Chapel who has charge of his arrangements.
