Beloved Husband, Father, Brother, and Friend, Steve Boaze passed away on March 24, 2026, at the age of 59. His unexpected passing has left many heartbroken as we remember the amazing, lovable, and sociable man he was.
Steven was born on September 28, 1966, to his parents, Bill and Betty Boaze. He was the baby of the family - and told everyone 'the only one they planned' - and is survived by his elder sister Vicki and brother, Mike.
As a young man, Steve was a comedian and a practical joker. Playing tricks or being quick with a joke was the highlight of his day, which never lessened with time. And while many of us may have met this version of Steve, the one who never knew a stranger, who could talk you tired, or had a new joke he just had to share, there was so much more to Steve Boaze. He was an artist with a passion for wetland landscapes in pencil, a poet with a knack for less-than-PG rap lyrics, a weatherman at heart and a storm chaser in his own mind. He was an ardent duck hunter and fisherman who loved to tell you stories of trips with his own father, brother, and brother-in-law growing up in the River Bottom. He loved roping and taught new kids the art at his home in LaPorte, Texas. Steve was also an avid sports fan who never missed an Aggie football game on TV, when at all possible, and knew more about the teams than some commentators.
Most of all, he was a romantic at heart. Steve was never shy about his love for his wife, Alicia. From taking time at work at the Lyondell Chemical Plant, hand-making flowers from plastic pellets and coloring them with Sharpies, to writing her a song about their early dates and having a country artist sing it as a Valentine's present. Steve was her greatest champion and her biggest cheerleader. There was nothing she could not do in his eyes. Steve was always finding ways to show he cared throughout their 34-year marriage.
Steve's greatest pride came from his boys, Ethan and Nathan Boaze. After getting sick in 2001, Steve became a stay-at-home dad and he relished the time he got to spend raising his sons. From playing practical jokes at sleepovers to teaching the boys to drive (way too young, and they both got grounded), Steve was there every step of the way to guide, mentor, and love them. And when his sons got married, he enjoyed riling Katherine and Caley up - as much as he did making them feel at home as part of the family.
Steve will be missed by his extensive family and community at large. He made an impression on everyone that he met. We can all carry a piece of him with us, remembering him each time we share one of his jokes or stories.
Steve is survived by his wife, Alicia Boaze, and Lexi Ehret; his sons and their wives, Ethan and Katherine Boaze, and Nathan and Caley Neuman; his in-laws, Steve and Donna Canon; his sister and her husband, Vicki and Andy Smith; his nephew, Phillip and Lindsay Smith and their children; his nephew, Bill and Sarah Smith and their children; his brother, Mike and Melisa Boaze, and their children and grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Jody and Alan McCracken, and their children; as well as his uncles, aunts, and cousins.
Services will be held at Sneed-Carnley Funeral Chapel in Lampasas on Sunday, March 29, 2026, at 2:30 pm with visitation an hour prior. Burial will follow at School Creek Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to CASA of Bell and Coryell Counties, or McLane Children's Medical Center Foundation, which aims to enrich the lives and health of the children in our local communities, support their families, and strengthen communities through developing healthy families.
