Wanda Kay Peeples

Wanda Kay Peeples, 62, of Lometa, Texas, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.  She was born on January 2, 1964, in Pryor, Oklahoma, to Emmanuel Jay "E.J."Chupp and Ida Mae Chupp.

Wanda married the love of her life, Mark Nelson Peeples, on December 16, 1985, in Dallas, Texas.  Together, they built a life centered around God, family, hard work, faith, and caring for others.  Nearly 41 years of marriage brought them a lifetime of memories, challenges, laughter, and love.

Wanda was a woman who gave everything she had to all the people she knew and loved.  She worked countless hours throughout her life, and whatever task was in front of her, she did it to the best of her abilities.  She owned and operated a bakery, spent countless hours cleaning homes, offices, and facilities.  But her greatest work was caring for her family.  Together with Mark, she made sure each of her daughters had everything they needed to grow, succeed, and find their way in life.

Wanda loved to bake and took great joy in decorating for all seasons, listening to Granger Smith's podcasts on YouTube, playing games with family and friends, and especially loved a good game of Dutch Blitz.  She always looked for a bargain garage sale and appreciated the thrill of finding a really good deal.

She was a devoted fan of her Texas Longhorns and Dallas Cowboys and loved watching football and basketball.  She especially loved watching Autumn play basketball in Tennessee on YouTube.  She made it a priority to show up to as many of her grandkid's activities as she could before illness and injury made it difficult.  

Wanda carried countless stories from her childhood and loved sharing them with whoever would listen.  She always shared her memories of playing basketball in a skirt, milking cows by hand, and learning her math problems while doing chores by writing the problems in marking chalk on the walls of the old barn.  These stories were pieces of the life she lived and memories she passed down for generations.

Above all, Wanda loved people.  She loved visiting, talking, laughing, listening, and simply being present with others.  She had a gift for making people feel loved and cared for.

Her faith was at the very center of who Wanda was.  She loved singing hymns, studying the Bible, and spending time in prayer.  She had a powerful prayer life and a prayer circle that meant so much to her.  When Wanda went before the Lord in prayer, she prayed with her whole heart.  Her family often said that when Wanda prayed, mountains shook.

Wanda's greatest legacy will not be found in the jobs she held of the things she accomplished, but in the people she loved and the lives she touched.  She was a wife, mother grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, caregiver, prayer warrior, baker, storyteller, and so much more.  She gave of herself freely and loved fiercely.

Wanda is survived by her husband, Mark Nelson Peeples; her daughters, Ginger Tucker and husband Christopher Tucker of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, Chelsea Hershberger and husband Joseph Hershberger Jr. of Lometa, Texas, and Samantha Lawrence and husband Derek Lawrence of Gatesville, Texas; her grandchildren, William Tucker, Samuel Tucker, Autumn, O'Donnell, and June O'Donnell of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, Joseph Hershberger III and Kamdyn Hershberger of Lometa, Texas, and Hillary Lawrence, Rory Fine, and Ripley Lawrence of Gatesville, Texas.; her brothers, Leon Chupp and Rhonda of Chouteau, Oklahoma, Dale Chupp and wife Maria of Inola, Oklahoma, and Stanley Chupp and wife Cindy of Inola, Oklahoma; her sister, Shirley Kennell and husband Larry of Chouteau, Oklahoma; and her brother-and-sister-in-law, Don and Bessie Peeples of Hawkins, Texas; brother-in-law, Timmy Peeples of Murchinson, Texas and numerous nieces, nephews and other loving family members. 

Wanda was preceded in death by her father, Emmanuel Jay "E.J." Chupp; her grandparents John and Mary Ann Chupp, and Mart and Barbara Bontrager.

Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church in Lometa on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at 11:30 am. Visitation will be prior to the service from 10 am to 11 am.  Burial will follow at Senterfitt Cemetery in Lometa.
