William Clifford Black, also known affectionately as Cliff, passed away on March 10, 2024, in Copperas Cove, Texas. He was born in Charlotte, North Carolina, on December 19, 1937. Throughout his life, William made significant contributions both in his career and personal life.
William dedicated 20 years of service to the United States Army, reaching the rank of Staff Sergeant. His commitment and valor were recognized with several prestigious awards including the Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Army of Occupation Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device 60, Vietnam Service Medal, and Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm.
After retiring from Bell County, William continued to lead a fulfilling life filled with his favorite hobbies and interests. He found solace in going fishing and spending time outdoors. Moreover, he was actively involved in various organizations such as being a proud Mason, Shriner, Scottish Rite member, and a part of the Order of the OES.
William's warm personality shone through as he was always willing to lend a helping hand to others. He will be remembered fondly for his generosity and kind spirit. His family meant the world to him; he always ensured that his grandchildren and great-grandchildren never wanted for anything.
William is survived by his loving wife Ursula Black; son William C Black Jr (Billy) (and wife Penny Black) and daughter Martha Black-Stayton. He is also survived by grandchildren Sara Owings (and wife Julia Owings), Chad Black (and wife Chelsey Black), Taylor Sterk, Blake Stayton; as well as deceased family members including his father Hugh Black, mother Nellie Black, 5 sisters, 5 brothers; grandson Lane Cody Stayton; and great-grandson Lane Ryan Trotter.
