Zoe Ella Clark

Zoe Ella Robertson Clark, affectionately known as "Mia" to her family, was born on October 4, 1937, in Maxdale, Texas, to M.L. "Tubby" Robertson and Illa B. Lee Robertson. She was born in her parents' home on family land along the Lampasas River, where her family's roots stretched back generations. The earliest known record of her ancestors in the area dates to 1908.

Graveside services will be held at Maxdale Cemetery on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at 10 am.

Zoe loved sharing stories of her childhood on the river. She fondly recalled being a "river rat" alongside her older brother, Joe Mac Robertson. Until she was seven years old, their home had no electricity, and she often spoke of the excitement when Pedernales Electric Cooperative (PEC) first brought electricity to the community and later when Fort Hood transformed the surrounding area.

Her family's history was one of Zoe's greatest treasures. Many of her ancestors are laid to rest in this very cemetery. Visitors are encouraged to take a moment to read the historical marker honoring this special place and the families who helped shape the community.

Zoe graduated from Briggs High School in 1954. She then attended cosmetology school and began her career as a beautician in Killeen, Texas. In 1960, she married and raised her family in Austin, Texas. Later in life, she returned to her parents' home in Briggs, where she proudly continued the family traditions of land stewardship and livestock.

She also enjoyed a long and dedicated career with H-E-B, retiring after 25 years of faithful service.

A devoted mother, Zoe believed in hard work, perseverance, and the value of education. Her children will always remember her persistence, determination, and unwavering encouragement to continue learning, develop their skills, and build secure futures.

Above all, Zoe was a woman of deep and abiding faith who loved the Lord. Her steadfast trust in God guided her throughout her life and was reflected in the strength, grace, and tenacity with which she faced every challenge.

Surrounded by the love of her family, Zoe peacefully entered her eternal home on June 27, 2026, at 12:34 am.

Zoe was preceded in death by her parents, M.L. "Tubby" Robertson and Illa B. Lee Robertson; her beloved brother, Joe Mac Robertson; and her infant son, Michael Joe Clark.

She is lovingly survived by her daughter, Debbie Clark; her daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Seth Lyles; her son and daughter-in-law, James and Kimberly Clark; her cherished grandson, James Ryan Clark; her three step-grandsons, Chris, Jordan and Austin Perry; several step-great-grandchildren; and many extended family members, dear friends, and neighbors whose lives were blessed by her kindness, strength and unwavering faith.

In keeping with Zoe's lifelong love of nature and the land she cherished, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the Arbor Day Foundation, of which Zoe was a faithful member since 2003. A gift in her memory - or the simple act of planting a tree - would be a fitting tribute to a life so deeply rooted in faith, family, and the Texas soil she loved.

Though she will be deeply missed, Zoe's legacy lives on in the family she cherished, the land she loved, the traditions she preserved, and the faith she passed on to future generations.
